July 4th Fireworks

                 

       

Happy 4th July!! We went up to our roof to watch the fireworks which I couldn't catch very well on my SLR so ended up playing around with the lights! Other than watching the fireworks and having lunch at Macdonalds we have not spent independence day being very patriotic but instead have used the day off to catch up on some sleep and Breaking Bad.

Full Moon

Red cups on the roof!

You know you're in New York when you're up on the roof of your apartment drinking from red party cups...the view is incredible! 

Lower East Side and Williamsburg

Banana Pancakes!!! We trekked all the way down to Lower Easy side/ Bowery area to the Clinton Street Baking Co which is famous for their pancakes only to be told their was a two and a half hour waiting time for a table. We then tried the famous Katzs Delicatessen to see another horrific queue so we ended up at Remedy Diner. Our first proper American diner where I struggled to eat even half of my banana pancakes. 


Over the bridge in Williamsburg we were hoping to go to Mccarren Pool to cool down but found yet another long queue so decided to head to Beacon's Closet vintage store instead. 

Schiapparelli and Prada: Impossible conversations

This weeks summer Friday afternoon free we spent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the exhibition Schiapparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. As advised by employees at Banana, we read the small print when paying to get in the met and paid ten dollars for the three of us to enter as opposed to the advised donation on 12 dollars each...we are students!

The exhibition was really unique and cleverly put together with films playing showing conversations between Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiapparelli (played by an actress of course). These iconic women discuss their opinions on how a woman should dress covering surrealism to Postmodernism and "Ugly Chic". My favourite section was probably the "Waist Up/Waist Down" argument where Schiapparelli chooses to draw attention to the top half of the body with extravagant hats and heavily embroidered jackets whereas Prada puts more emphasis on the lower half of the body with fancy footwear and as she states "ugly" colours. 

Flavaboom

Just around the corner from work along Avenue of the Americas is Flavaboom. Forget iceceam, frozen yoghurt is the way forward out here whether it is "Fro-yo" or "Yo-go" we can't get enough of it. Here at Flavaboom it is an interactive fro-yo making experience where you make your own dessert and then weigh and pay!
